About Us

Over the past 20 years, more than one million families have benefited from economic and educational gains thanks to the work of the National Center for Families Learning.

NCFL was established in 1989 by Sharon Darling, who continues as president.

With the help of more than 150,000 teachers and thousands of other volunteers, NCFL is better able to respond to the changing needs and demographics of under-served populations -- and not just on a community level. Literacy initiatives and programs have been seeing results on the local, state, and national levels that have benefited from the efforts of NCFL.
