Stopping summer learning loss: Free, online camp engages children, parents in wonders of the world
Jul 6, 2017 Parents and children now have a new, free way to explore the wonders of the world while piquing children's curiosities and stemming summer learning loss - Camp Wonderopolis. The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL), with support from Better World Books, launched this free, online summer learning camp where parents and children can discover fun science, technology, and world wonders at Camp.Wonderopolis.org.
NCFL Family Learning expands to seven Louisville sites
May 23, 2017 Deraldo Hall didn’t have much support growing up, but he’s working hard to make sure that’s not the case for his five children. Hall, his wife, and kids – four girls and one boy ranging in age from 1 to 6 years old – are attending weekly NCFL Family Learning meetings at 2NOT1. Hall’s family signed up for the program to learn to be a more engaged parent in his children’s education, build family bonds, and learn workforce skills that could widen his job prospects.
Toyota expands National Family Learning program to Tupelo
May 5, 2017 The National Center for Families Learning (NCFL), in partnership with Toyota and the Family Resource Center of North Mississippi, today unveiled a unique family learning program. This innovative, two-generation model called Toyota Family Learning is a solution to many of the educational challenges facing low-income and ethnically diverse families. The Family Resource Center of North Mississippi received a three-year, $175,000 grant from Toyota and NCFL to launch the program.
The power of reading: Richmond families celebrate National Reading Month

Boston-area educator wins national Family Teacher of the Year award
Oct 13, 2016 Jean Ciborowski Fahey , a Weymouth, Mass., community educator, was named 2016 Toyota Family Teacher of the Year today by NCFL and Toyota for her efforts to educate parents of babies and young children about reading and brain development. Central to Ciborowski Fahey’s outreach strategy is a book she wrote, “Make Time for Reading: a story guide for parents of babies and young children.” Ciborowski Fahey will use the $20,000 grant from Toyota and NCFL to reprint her book in English and Spanish, which will enable her to reach nearly 7,000 more parents.
United States Senators Cornyn and Booker Introduce Family Service Learning Resolution
Sep 19, 2016 U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), along with Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), and Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) introduced a resolution recognizing the importance of Family Service Learning and designating the week of September 12 through 16, 2016 as National Family Service Week. “When we invest in families, the entire community benefits and grows,” said Sen. Cornyn. “Family Service Learning opens up new opportunities that will empower parents and children alike to benefit from the gift of education and the opportunity of community involvement.”
National Center for Families Learning Applauds Congressional Resolution on Family Service Learning
