NCFL and Libraries
No longer are libraries a one stop shop. The free and affordable library programs available to parents and children are integral to supporting family literacy efforts in our communities. Produced in partnership with Urban Libraries Council, NCFL has created a Leadership Brief, Libraries Supporting Family Learning, which offers 5 actionable steps for libraries and partners to broaden and deepen family learning success. Download it here.
NCFL's work with libraries at national, state, and local levels recognizes, leads, and supports libraries as natural partners to provide, at an increasing rate, literacy and learning opportunities for families. NCFL has led and rewarded two-generation and STEM-focused programming in libraries since 2009, including intensive and innovative programming for vulnerable families.
NCFL's partnership with the Urban Libraries Council has resulted in national communications to share opportunities for libraries, including library grants and other opportunities from NCFL; joint presentations and a national webcast at the 2015 Families Learning Summit to raise the profile of library, school, and community-based organization partnerships; and a leadership brief to highlight the many ways libraries can address family and community literacy and education needs.
For millions of people, libraries are the gateway to the digital universe – a place where people learn how to use technology to achieve their goals in life.
Libraries everywhere are building digital media labs and "maker spaces" where people gather to imagine and invent. Libraries offer cutting-edge STEM learning experiences and are key providers of high-octane summer learning opportunities that help children succeed in school.
