SUMMARY:National Webinar Series | Creating Access to Adult Education with Family Literacy
DESCRIPTION:For millions of adults\, barriers to education persist\, from scheduling conflicts to the stigma of returning to the classroom alone. This presentation will explore how a family literacy model offers a powerful solution to support recruitment and retention of adult learners who are also parents. By engaging parents and their children simultaneously\, this approach not only improves adult literacy skills but also fosters a culture of learning within the home. We’ll delve into the foundational principles of family literacy\, highlighting how it provides a safe\, supportive\, and highly relevant learning environment. Attendees will learn how this model builds stronger families\, enhances community engagement\, and creates a more accessible pathway for adults to achieve their educational goals. Join me as we explore how investing in the entire family can be the key to unlocking a more literate future. \nRegister Now\n  \nSpeaker: \n \nMarcus Haile\, President & CEO\, Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida. \nMarcus is a nonprofit veteran professional of almost 30 years with roles ranging from program management\, to fundraising\, and now executive leadership as the CEO of the Literacy Alliance since 2019. In addition to the adult education focus of the Literacy Alliance\, Marcus has been involved in causes ranging from the arts\, to youth development\, and grant making. \nSince starting at the Literacy Alliance\, the organization has grown in enrollment and budget by over 200%\, particularly with the addition of new initiatives such as in family literacy. He is an advocate for both increased access to adult education\, particularly through neighborhood programming\, and the role of nonprofit\, community based\, organizations in creating such access. \nMarcus is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and master’s in Public Administration. His family life is\, coincidentally or not\, also very influenced by literacy and includes his wife of 29 years\, Jill\, who is a librarian with the City of Jacksonville and his daughter Meghan who attends the University of Florida while studying anthropology and working for the local independent bookstore.
