DESCRIPTION:Register Now\nFamily leadership serves as a key strategy for creating family-centered solutions to critical community issues. This webinar will showcase one of NCFL’s family leadership programs\, Activate!™ Local\, and feature insights from on-the-ground experts in North Carolina. Webinar attendees will gain a deeper understanding of what meaningful family leadership programming looks like\, how NCFL uses co-facilitation to elevate family voice and bring lived experiences to the forefront\, and how families use family leadership skills to make an impact in their communities. \nSpeakers: \n \nAfter working in public education for 27+ years as a teacher\, ESL teacher\, and Multilingual Learner Program Director\, David Sisk is currently the North Carolina Director for NCFL. In this role\, he provides leadership and strategic thinking for NCFL’s North Carolina activities. In addition to building and supporting family engagement\, family leadership\, and family literacy partnerships in NC\, David also leads the North Carolina Statewide Family Engagement Center (NC SFEC). \n  \n  \n \nChristina Bullard (Lumbee) is an educator\, wife\, and proud mother of one son. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master’s in the Art of Teaching Secondary Science from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke\, she has spent 18 years in education\, including 15 years as a middle school science teacher. \nCurrently\, Christina serves as the Parent Liaison for the Hoke County Schools Indian Education Program. Her love for science drives her efforts to create meaningful learning experiences that honor Indigenous traditions while fostering academic success. \n  \n \nCharryse Fredrick-Omari has served as an educator in the Piedmont Region of North Carolina for 28 years. Since 2022\, she has served as a Community Schools Coordinator in Durham Public Schools (DPS) and was selected this year to serve as a co-facilitator for the Activate! Local Program in Durham\, NC. She believes in a holistic approach to education and training where educators seek to address the emotional\, social\, ethical\, physical\, and intellectual needs of students in integrated learning environments that are both learner-centered and community-focused. \nPrior to working within the school district\, Charryse served as the Training Coordinator for the Augustine Literacy Project® of the Triangle now known as the Children’s Literacy Project and a leading voice for Jump Forward™\, the outreach initiative of the Bouncing Bulldogs Program. She is the lead consultant for RR Consultants in the State of North Carolina\, developing innovative programs to strengthen communities. Charryse enjoys partnering with organizations to develop new training programs\, providing strategies to better meet the needs of learners\, improve collaboration\, support family advocacy\, and expand outreach and enrichment opportunities to strengthen communities. \n  \n \nNareny Martinez is the Multilingual Learners Parent Engagement Program Manager for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools\, where she plays a vital role in supporting English Learner families and coordinating interpreter services across the district. With a deep commitment to educational equity\, Nareny has dedicated her career to empowering families to actively engage in their children’s academic journeys. \nBefore her current role\, Nareny served as an EL Support Specialist at Forsyth Technical Community College. She later advanced to become the EL Parent Engagement Support Specialist and District Coordinator for the Toyota Family Literacy Program\, where she helped bridge communication and cultural gaps between schools and multilingual families. \nOriginally from Oaxaca\, Mexico\, Nareny has lived in the United States since 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her work is driven by a passion for fostering inclusive school communities and ensuring that all families—regardless of language or background—have the tools and support they need to thrive.
