Leadership Brief: Family Service Learning
Service-learning strategies have been widely used to enhance learning experiences of youth and young adults. Participation in these strategies often results in increased school engagement, civic participation, and leadership activities. Although service-learning undertakings have typically been carried out with school-age and college students, NCFL has developed a model that extends service-learning benefits to families. This Family Service Learning Brief highlights the benefits of engaging families in service-learning activities, offers initial findings from an independent evaluation of the model, and provides action steps for carrying out Family Service Learning activities.
