Building a legacy: How family learning changes everything

When a parenting adult learns alongside their child, something remarkable happens. It’s not just about literacy—it’s about breaking cycles, opening doors, and rewriting the future for an entire family.

This is the work of the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL), and right now, we’re at a pivotal moment in our mission to eradicate poverty through education solutions for families.

A bold vision for America’s families

The goal? To double the number of families and communities served in the coming years.

It’s an ambitious target, but the need has never been greater.

Why this matters now

Across the country, families are facing mounting challenges:

  • Children are struggling to read at grade level
  • Adults are seeking opportunities to build new skills and advance their careers
  • Schools are working harder than ever to connect families with critical support

Education and workforce readiness are family issues. And NCFL is stepping up to help families, educators, and communities come together to learn, lift, and lead.

Real results, real impact

The numbers tell a powerful story. In Kentucky, families participating in NCFL’s Family Learning programs have experienced:

  • Improved literacy and academic success for children and adults learning side by side.
  • Career advancement and stronger earnings as parents pursue credentials that open pathways to jobs with a livable wage.
  • Deeper community connection to ensure that families are helping to build the solutions that strengthen schools, businesses, and community networks.

Here’s the remarkable part: Every dollar invested in family learning programs creates a $32 return through stronger workforce outcomes, thriving families, and more resilient communities.
