Celebrate Read Across America Day!

March 2 is Read Across America Day, the National Education Association’s annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading. March 2 also marks the birthday of a beloved children’s book author.

If you’re wondering who that celebrated author is, Wonderopolis®, NCFL’s family learning website that helps parents nurture the joy and wonder of learning in their children, is commemorating the occasion with a special Wonder of the Day®, “Who Was Theodor Geisel?

After you learn the answer, learn more about this day from NEA’s Read Across America website, and get ideas for reading-focused activities from the NEA.

In addition, you can read the presidential proclamation from President Barack Obama, who said, “Cultivation of basic literacy skills can begin early and in the home. It is family who first instills the love of learning in our future leaders by engaging children in good reading habits and making reading a fun and interactive activity.”

Happy reading!
