How would $500 help your program promote the wonders of learning?
To support parents and children learning together, the National Center for Family Literacy will award $500 mini-grants to 20 community-based organizations, libraries or schools with creative ideas for adopting and using Wonderopolis® with the families in their existing programs. These grants are supported by NCFL partner Better World Books’ Literacy and Education in Action Program (LEAP).
From incorporating the Wonderopolis widget on school websites to blogging about their Wonderopolis experiences with middle school students to using Wonderopolis to start off the day with a kindergarten class, teachers across the country are creatively using the site as an educational supplement.
But Wonderopolis’ value extends beyond the classroom. Thanks to the support of Verizon Thinkfinity, a brand-new Wonder of the Day® publishes each and every day, making exciting, educational content available to libraries, community centers, YMCAs and other community-based organizations serving families and children.
Applications are due Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Applicants should prepare to describe how they will use the mini-grant to embed Wonderopolis in their program and how they think it will help them better deliver educational services to those they serve.
