NCFL is excited to announce four pre-conference masterclasses for the 2024 Families Learning Conference, taking place on Sunday, November 17th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST. Each session is designed to dive deeply into a carefully-curated topic. Priced at only $99, each masterclass offers access to industry-leading experts at an affordable price.

Bridging Health and Education through Evidence-based Health Literacy Strategies

  • In this masterclass, we’re joined by Candy Magaña, director of Health Equity Innovation, Solutions and Transformation at Humana, Inc. Participants will explore evidence-based health literacy resources and how they can be applied in the education space to support strong communication among educators and families that in turn helps foster a supportive and positive learning environment.

Developmental Relationships

  • Charla Hale, trainer at Search Institute, will deliver this masterclass that delves into the organization’s research-based Developmental Relationships Framework. Participants will use the Framework to identify and develop opportunities to build upon their relational strengths and to address their areas for growth.

Fragile Neighborhoods: Strategies for Success 

  • The pathway to community revitalization is to work with local leaders, activists, and innovative social entrepreneurs to strengthen the interconnected web of institutions and relations. Join Seth D. Kaplan, author of “Fragile Neighborhoods: Repairing American Society, One Zip Code at a Time,” to learn how to build upon community assets and support social cohesion to improve neighborhoods.

The Global Family, School, and Community Engagement Rubrics: An International Research Collaboration to Strengthen Global Praxis and Partnerships

  • Join The Brookings Institution and Center for Universal Education and the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) to discover rubrics that collectively assess family, school, and community engagement practices and help to build more inclusive and equitable partnerships. Co-presenters Dr. Emily Morris and Richaa Hoysala with The Brookings Institute and Dr. Darcy Hutchins with CDE will guide participants on how to use these tools to improve their own partnerships and practices, and will detail the process of developing and testing the rubrics to ensure they respond to diverse school communities around the world.
