Ferryway School in Malden, Massachusetts, incorporates science, math, design and technology for an interactive unit. They chose to embrace a project-learning strategy to connect science and colonial history through a local historic site that dates back to the 1640s, the Saugus Iron Works.

We’re Going on a Treasure Hunt: How to make a summertime museum trip with kids worthwhile columnist Emily Bazelon offers a mom’s perspective about taking two young boys to museums rather than to beach – full of laughs and suggestions.

For example, fellow columnist Anne Applebaum offers this tip: “We go into the gift shop, everybody buys a couple of postcards, and then they have to find the pictures/sculptures.”
