Expand pre-K gradually, says committee studying issue

A committee established by Gov. Andy Beshear, tasked with researching universal preschool, says Kentucky should phase in expanded access to pre-K over several years. In June, Beshear signed an executive order establishing the Pre-K for All Advisory Committee to explore support for universal pre-kindergarten programs in Kentucky.
Sam Flynn, the executive director for the Team Kentucky Pre-K for All Program, said Thursday that the group found, over the course of four months of meetings and town halls, that Kentucky’s children are not ready for kindergarten and about 27% of children in the state have access to pre-K.
