A recent report from the Center for Effective Philanthropy sounded the alarm about the current operating environment for U.S.-based nonprofits. The report cited greater demand for services and an increasingly fraught funding environment as factors contributing to stress, burnout and other organizational concerns. ​

I know very few nonprofits that are immune to these worries, especially as they relate to funding. While it’s not uncommon for funding to operate on boom-bust cycles, recently those cycles have felt amplified. This has led many organizations to fall back on philanthropic funding sources as a stopgap, intensifying competition for those opportunities. ​
