The UPS Store, Marine Toys for Tots Foundation kicks off National Family Literacy Month by announcing award winner

To help celebrate National Family Literacy Day®, The UPS Store® and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation announced the winner of the second annual Alferd Williams Literacy Award earlier this week.

Margaret King, a teacher at Medford Elementary in Patchogue, N.Y., has been an elementary school teacher for 27 years. She has launched both the Medford Book Mobile program and the “Literacy at the Laundromat” project, which offers a place for children to read at laundromats while waiting with their parents.

NCFL applauds Margaret and the four other finalists for their tireless efforts to improve our nation’s literacy rates. Congratulations, Margaret! To learn more about the finalists, visit the Alferd Williams Literacy Award’s website.

In addition, The UPS Store launched its holiday donation drive for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. Through the end of the year, participating locations will sell donation cards to help give books to less-fortunate children in the local community.
