More about Activate! National:
Activate! National is a collaborative network empowering underrepresented parenting adults and early childhood (EC) practitioners to transform early childhood systems into equitable and inclusive environments. Together, participants develop resources and presentations to equip families and advocates with the knowledge and skills to advocate for promising practices that improve educational outcomes for BIPOC children and families.
Speakers:
Mary Galloway is a two-time parent participant in Activate! National. She is Executive Director of Individual Philanthropy at Berea College in Kentucky, where her 4-year-old daughter and almost 1-year-old son are enrolled at the Berea College Child Development Laboratory, a Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood center. Mary is interested in the factors that shape strong family-teacher partnerships so that all children can thrive. Through Activate!, Mary is learning ways to support these partnerships in her community and beyond.
Kyronna Roanhorse is a two-time parent participant in Activate! National. She works at Salt River Elementary as an Education Secretary to the principal and has been working alongside her for 9 years. As a mother of four, Kyronna is proud of her children’s accomplishments. Her eldest daughter, Kiona, is a parent herself, while her son is a senior-focused on basketball and academics. Kyronna’s younger daughter, Kylie, is a junior volleyball player balancing athletics with her studies. Her youngest child is a first-grader at the school where she works, and they enjoy their daily commute together. Kyronna enjoys being a part of Activate! National because it allows her to bring her lived experiences and knowledge to the table.
Maria Perez is a two-time parent participant in Activate! National. Through her participation, she has gained invaluable insights into early childhood education and opportunities to engage with early childhood practitioners and parenting adults nationwide. Maria believes that it is incredibly rewarding to be a voice for mothers and an advocate for the needs of all children.
