What is neurodiversity and why should you care during a child’s preschool years? This introductory webinar–led by Activate! National participants–answers those questions while demonstrating the need for awareness of different abilities and better access for all to early childhood education.

Activate! National is a collaborative network empowering underrepresented parenting adults and early childhood (EC) practitioners to transform early childhood systems into equitable and inclusive environments. Together, participants develop resources and presentations to equip families and advocates with the knowledge and skills to advocate for promising practices that improve educational outcomes for BIPOC children and families.
Speakers:
From an award-winning journalist to an autism advocate, Tametria Conner Dantzler has repurposed her purpose. After her firstborn son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, she began sharing their journey, her knowledge, expertise, and talents with other autism families. As a public servant of more than 20 years, Tametria now serves her family of four and hundreds of other autism families across the country. She empowers and educates other parents and caregivers to find the ability in their child’s disability while advocating for equitable access, services, and resources for individuals with different abilities.
Shukurani Nsengiyumva currently works as a Program Manager with the Alzheimer’s Association, focusing on addressing disparities in dementia care affecting our Black and African American communities in Kalamazoo County, MI. Her background is in community advocacy at the local level, working with families, children, adults, and family caregivers. Shukurani loves engaging with people and being part of a movement. Fun update: She recently married the love of her life and is now navigating marriage. Additionally, she was accepted into an MPH program and will start this fall.
Winona Sherman is a proud member of the Navajo Tribe where she was born and raised in the Navajo Nation of New Mexico. She served 10+ years as an educator with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Kindergarten. She is the Budget and Compliance Specialist for her city-funded preschool, Tempe PRE in Tempe, Arizona.
