New guide for incorporating multiple literacies in family literacy programming
The impacts of low literacy are far-reaching, especially for the estimated 59 million Americans aged 16-65 who possess the lowest level of literacy (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Multigenerational education programs can more effectively meet this need with family literacy activities for parents and children that embrace an expanded definition of literacy—one that includes digital literacy, financial/math literacy, workplace literacy, and more.
NCFL is proud to support this work with a new publication, “Navigating the World: Incorporating Multiple Literacies through Family Literacy.” This guide for educators examines the evolving definition of literacy and discusses how to incorporate multiple literacies throughout the NCFL four-component family literacy model. Inside, readers will find ready-to-use adult education, parent time, and PACT Time® literacy activities.
